Job Overview


A large pharmaceutical manufacturer and wholesaler, providing a dynamic range of products and services is seeking a Communication Specialist who will ensure implement a communication strategy (across all target audiences) that will ensure effective, consistent and timely communication with internal and external stakeholders, resulting in a the favourable positioning of the medical scheme and associated brands as well as communication to staff to ensure that the branding and communication activities are aligned to and supportive to the overall strategies, with measurable interventions to ensure effectiveness

Key Job Outputs:


Client service delivery and quality:

  • Follow procedures and cooperate with peers and leader for best possible service delivery

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Defined legal, statutory and regulatory compliance is maintained at the required standards
  • Operational risk and governance structures, measures and frameworks are complied with and necessary action is taken to address issues, when necessary

Financial Management:

  • Contribute to cost savings within the department to assist with financial goals and targets

Operating Model:

  • Effectively deliver all allocated and defined communication project from planning to completed implementation
  • Deliver excellent quality, accurate communication including but not limited to writing, proof reading and editing
  • Ensure delivery of appropriate communication through managing the needs, requirements and relationship with internal stakeholders
  • Manage delivery and quality of events and external communication through managing defined service providers
  • Ensure team deliverables are met at the correct standard and by the defined deadlines
  • Meet delivery objectives through working with other team members within and linked to the department / project
  • Resolve operational performance variations and problems and escalate unresolved issues to higher levels
  • Ensure delivery targets/objectives are met and operate in a supportive manner to achieve successful delivery

Operational Implementation of Strategy:

  • Keep up to date with operational changes implemented in response to important external influences
  • Deliver in a manner that supports and meets operational quality standards and meets the defined departmental priorities
  • Perform according to defined operational best practice and identify and implement opportunities for continuous delivery improvement

Operational Leadership:

  • Deliver personal performance within Human Capital frameworks and policies to ensure delivery to agreed standards and objectives
  • Engage in development, coaching and mentoring
  • Support transformation through valuing diversity

Stakeholder Management:

  • Ensure messages are understood and assimilated through managing the channels and communicating through appropriate channels for the stakeholders
  • Build the organisation’s brand both internally and externally as a communication partner through required communication methods including formalised publications
  • Ensure appropriate, active and informative relationships with customers and relevant stakeholders are successfully achieved
  • Address customer or stakeholder complaints in alignment with the policies and procedures and ensuring customer / stakeholder buy-in

Position Specific Outputs

  • Ensure appropriate, active and informative relationships with customers, value chain partners and industry players (if applicable) are in place
  • Provide strategic communication support
  • Development of a PR and Communication strategy to support the marketing and sales objectives
  • Managing the implementation and execution of the communications strategy across all agreed channels as indicated in the strategy

Minimum Requirements:

  • Relevant degree Communication, Public Relations, Journalism or Marketing
  • 5 – 6 years’ experience in marketing and communication environment
  • Proven track record in implementing PR & Media and communication strategies


Salary:   Market related
